What is a Life Group?

Life Groups are groups of people meeting weekly and bi-weekly throughout Corpus Christi and the surrounding area for a combination of fellowship, prayer, & Bible study. Life Groups are a place to experience true community and share life together with other believers. Life Groups are a way to get connected and begin to feel like a part of the Bay Area Fellowship family. We have groups meeting throughout the Corpus Christi area almost every day of the week. One of them is waiting for you!

What does the Bible have to say about the concept of Life Groups?

Acts 2:42-47 "All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals including the Lord's Supper, and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved."

It's our human nature to have the desire for fellowship. Genesis 2:18 "The Lord God said, It is not good for man to be alone." Each of us has deep within our hearts the need to love and be loved. We all long for a relationship in which we can share this need. The truest definition of love is in serving others and Christ showed us the perfect example of this love. Matthew 20:28 "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Hebrews 10:24-25 "Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.  And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near."

Why do I need a Life Group?

As our church grows larger, it can be a bit intimidating for all of us and a little hard to feel connected. Life Groups change that and allow each of us to be connected to others in the church through a small group. To continue to grow larger, we must grow smaller, by continuing to grow our Life Group ministry.

Life Groups are a place where the Love of Christ is shared with others. Relationships are built, trust is developed, and life is shared together. We learn to serve one another just as Christ served us. Christ wants you to experience His Love. When you experience something, it becomes real to you. You "own" it, so to speak. For example, if you've never eaten chocolate, someone else can describe it to you. They can tell you all about the taste and texture, but until you take a bite of it, it won't really mean anything.

What if I want to lead a Life Group?

One of the best ways to grow in your walk with Christ is to begin leading a Life Group. You don't have to be a Bible scholar and you don't have to have all the answers. All that is required is that you are a believer, that you agree to support the ministry of Bay Area Fellowship, and that you have a heart to share the love of Christ. Past that point we will give you all the training, tools, and support you will need to have an incredible experience of sharing Christ's Love with others. What do I have to do as a Life Group Leader?

We create a sermon based curriculum and our Life Group Leaders use this curriculum for the study time of the group. The curriculum is written using our Pastor's sermon each weekend. The Bible scriptures are listed and can be read by anyone in the group, along with a brief synopsis of each sermon point our Pastor has in the teaching. This is followed by an open ended question, with regard to the point, that is presented to the group to facilitate discussion. This sermon based curriculum does an amazing job of helping the people in the group connect with each other, and with the church, and acutally helps to put the Biblical teaching into application in each of our lives. Life Groups are all about sharing life together and this type of curriculum helps to open the door to sincere, open, trusting discussions that heal and grow us in Christ's love.
